Hello again!
Last week, I wrote to you about Brett and I's engagement story. And this week, the wedding planning began! We didn't start anything before we got engaged and since we want to get married next July we have to catch up a bit… We decided that the best way to start would be to create a vision of what we want our wedding to look like. And let me tell you, we got our fair share of inspiration this week! Brett and I's date night consisted of sitting on the floor with wedding magazines spread around us, our laptops open to the best wedding blogs, a notebook and a calculator (a very necessary tool when your budget really matters to you!). After a few hours, we finally got a solid idea of what we want our day to look and feel like.
To put it in the simplest words… we decided that we wanted it to be reflection of us. After wrapping our head and hearts around what 'us' looked like in wedding form, we decided that our day would be romantic, sentimental and include our family and friends who have brought us to where we are today. We want guests to feel cozy and relaxed at our reception. They should drive home from the wedding late at night, tired from dancing, their faces sore from smiling and they should let out a big sigh as they soak up the romance of the whole day. They should feel refreshed and believe in love more than they did when they arrived.
What does a cozy and romantic wedding like this look like? Here are some of our favourite pictures that capture those feelings.
It looks like large wood tables, in a closed in, cozy space.
It looks like ballet flats instead of heels.
It looks like all of the people closest to your heart, holding sparklers to the night sky, sending you off at the end the day.
It looks like dark wood, hanging lanterns and lots of candles.
It looks like starry lights, giving off a warm glow and hanging from every corner.
It looks like notes from guests, daydreaming about the future and lots of talk about love.
It looks like soft, romantic flowers in mason jars scattered across tables.
It looks like pastel coloured roses and white hydrangeas.
It looks like a polaroid picture photo booth with a chalkboard sign for special messages.
It looks like soft pink and grey, music-inspired CD invitations.
It looks like blush pink, chiffon bridesmaid dresses. And it also looks like six bridesmaids...
It looks like a welcoming, warm entrance to a cozy, secluded secret garden of friends, family and food.
It looks like a collection of teas for guests to sip on, on a cool summer night.
It looks like a grey suit, a simply beautiful dress and a whole lot of love.
Three hours of number crunching and daydreaming later… We put together a collection of pictures, looked through blogs, flipped through magazines, calculated the cost of different reception venues, worked on our budget and discussed potential photographers.
After all of the inspiration hunting was done for the night, we lay on the couch exhausted. And it was in that moment that I realized the best-kept wedding inspiration secret of them all… I turned my head and looked at Brett and the world of planning paused for a moment. I was marrying this guy. Marriage… that meant loving him forever and sharing my life with him no matter what. He looked back at me and I could tell by the smile in his eyes that he was thinking about the same thing. "Can you believe this is really happening?" he said.
All of the wedding inspiration a girl will ever need, is right there in the love that she shares with her fiance. Stay focused on that and a special ease will fall over all of your plans and your vision will be so much more than frantic flower decisions, it will become one of love and forever.
