Trends are passing. They ebb and flow, they evolve and are adapted, and we often avoid them for fear of being “stuck” in a trend. But we love them. We become attached to trends, especially when wedding planning. Mason jars have been one of those trends over the past few seasons, setting the perfect rustic, vintage, or casual vibe. So when you’ve fallen in love, how do you make any trend last? Take it in a different way! Incorporate that trend throughout your wedding but in unexpected ways to adapt it to your own tastes and keep it stylish!
Mason jars are the quintessential “rustic” accessory, so there’s no better colour palette to choose for your wedding than country-loving red and white gingham, accented with fresh greens and washed out wood tones. Bring the look together with a simple red and white houndstooth runner, whitewashed mason jars filled with loose flowers, and clean white place settings.
Ice Cream Favours
Could there be a better way to cool off your guests on a hot summer day and give them dessert at the same time than ice cream? Layered ice cream sundaes in clear glass mason jars tie in the theme while tempting guests with a sweet tooth. We chose to mix in fresh berries, mint s’mores, and turtles.
Vases
Dress up your canning jars to create one-of-a-kind vases. We did a simple paint DIY (use latex, spray paint, or transparent glass paint depending on the look you want to achieve) to transform the kitchen jars into milk glass look-a-likes, which were the perfect vases for an assortment of freshly cut loose flowers, like mini hydrangeas, daisies, button mums, lisianthus, and lots of greenery.
Menu Cards
Incorporate your menu cards into the table design, inserting menu “flags” casually into different vases. Tiny white polka dots and a zigzag edge incorporate fun texture.
Sangria Recipe
The perfect summer drink! Load it up with fresh fruits and a striped straw for the perfect touch.
1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
1/2 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup strawberries (sliced)
1 12 oz. bottle of ginger ale
1/2 cup sugar
2 oz. blackberry liqueur
Preparation:
Toss wine, berries, blackberry liqueur and sugar in a pitcher. Cover and place in refrigerator overnight. Pour in bottle of chilled ginger ale just before serving. Add ice to either pitcher or individual glasses.
The Details
Tie it all together with small touches—rickrack straw tags, mismatched fabric strips tied around chairs and vases, and stacks of weathered wood crates.
DIY Items...
Count it up! We did a lot of DIY for this wedding style and it was plenty of fun putting everything together. But if you’re planning an entire wedding with lots of crafting, you may want to cut back on the number of creative projects so you can make sure everything gets done on time.
-Fabric banners and handkerchief pennants
-Mason jar lid favours/place cards
-Table runner
-Painted vases
-Flower arranging
-Mini mason jar candles
