Let them eat cake. Just give them options first.
There’s a reason why the candy buffet has been at the top of every bride’s list for so long. People like options, and when those options are presented in the most lovely of fashions, perfection just might be reached. The only difficulty you’ll run into, as slight as it may be? Ensuring your sweet display isn’t too beautiful to nibble on.
If you’re in need of a little help with your very own sweet stylings, look no further than this fail-proof guide to creating the perfect sweets table!
How-To: Design the Perfect Sweets Table
Set the Scene
The key to perfecting the styling of any vignette is creating just the right stage. Jenna Rae Cakes and team started with an antique dresser, prettying it up with a smooth shade of mint paint along the top. The backdrop is just as important as the stage, so make sure something just as sweet as your desserts creates that perfect atmosphere, like a simple wall of balloons tied with gold streamers.
The Treats
Suit the style of your treats to your design concept. For this feminine, romantic look, Jenna Rae Cakes created an assortment of highly textured, coordinated sweets.
Left to Right: Meringues; Lemon with raspberry petal cake; Red velvet cake pops covered with chocolate and sprinkles; Vanilla rosette cake with vanilla buttercream; Chocolate mini frill cake with vanilla buttercream.
The Details
Finishing off your look is as easy as ... placing beautiful cakes on the table! The key to this design was adding details with lots of texture that also evoke a retro feminine aesthetic. Tissue paper fringe topping cake pops and streamers accenting the table create a festive, lighthearted feel. And when it comes to treat boxes, yes, you need to be practical but that doesn’t mean it has to be any less lovely than the rest of your table! Here, fringe dresses up plain boxes that serve as favours. A pretty twist on the usual treat labels is a single cake menu, complete with cute-as-pie hand drawings.
Tie It All Together
—and that doesn’t mean washing one colour over your entire table. A cleverly coordinated colour palette will bring depth and personality to your look. Here, the combo of peach and mint are the focal point, perfectly accented with shades of ivory and hints of gold running throughout. These shades work together to evoke a feminine, romantic look that plays off the detailed accents of the desserts.
